CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Pat White had one more dazzling comeback in him before finishing his record-breaking college career.
White threw for 332 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Alric Arnett midway through the fourth quarter that sent West Virginia to a 31-30 win over North Carolina on Saturday in the Meineke Bowl.
The senior quarterback was voted MVP of a bowl for the third straight year and finished 4-0 in postseason games, helping West Virginia (9-4) overcome Hakeem Nicks’ big day for North Carolina to end a disappointing season on a positive note.
Nicks caught eight passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns for the Tar Heels (8-5), but T.J. Yates was intercepted by Pat Lazear with under 2 minutes left to end Butch Davis’ hopes of a bowl win in his second year at North Carolina.

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics in a rematch of the 2007-8 NBA Finals won by the Celtics. Kobe Bryant led all players with an all-around great performance at the Staples Center – 29 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Pau Gasol also poured in 20 points to help the Lakers to victory. The Celtics top players all had good games, but the bench was disappointing. Paul Pierce had 20 points and 10 rebounds. KG had 22 points and 9 rebounds. Ray Allen chipped in 14 points, while Rajon Rondo dished out 12 assists.

Another smart NFL player.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -New York Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for throwing snow at fans following the team’s loss at Seattle on Sunday.
Several fans threw snowballs at New York players and staff as they walked off the field after the Seahawks’ 13-3 victory. Ellis then walked over to a pile of snow, picked up a large chunk and tossed it into the stands at Qwest Field, appearing to hit at least a few fans. No one was believed to have been injured.
Ellis said Tuesday: “It was all in fun.”
It’s the latest troublesome incident involving Ellis, who was arrested for speeding and marijuana possession last month and could face a suspension next season under the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Titans Tops In AFC; Vikings Open Door For Bears With Loss to Falcons
Filed under: Chicago Bears, NFL, Sports; Tagged as: Minnesota Vikings, NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee TitansNo Comments
AFC Wrap:
The Tennessee Titans defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-14 on Sunday to clinch the best record in the AFC. The Titans will have home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. The Titans had a balanced attack against a stingy Steelers defense. Kerry Collins was efficient – 20 for 29 for 216 yards, 1 touchdown and no interceptions. Chris Johnson rushed for 69 yards and 1 touchdown, while LenDale White rushed for 48 yards and 1 touchdown. Justin Gage led the Titans in receiving with 5 catches for 104 yards and a score. Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 26 of 40 passes for 331 yards and he threw 2 touchdown passes. “Gentle Ben” also threw 2 costly interceptions, however, including an interception that was returned by the Titans Michael Griffin 83 yards for a touchdown that sealed the victory for the Titans with only 18 seconds remaining. The Titans will presumably rest some key players next week in order to gear up, and stay healthy, for the all-important playoff run.
NFC Wrap:
In a surprise upset, the Atlanta Falcons hung on for a 24-17 win over the Vikings in Minnesota. The Vikings could have clinched a 1st place finish in the NFC North and a playoff berth. The Vikings loss opens the door for the Chicago Bears. With a win over the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football tomorrow night, the Bears would move into a tie with the Vikings atop the NFC North. The Vikings would need to win at home next week against the New York Giants in order to secure the division win (they hold the tie-breaker against the Bears), but if the Vikings were to lose and the Bears were to defeat the Texans in Houston, the Bears would be crowned the NFC North kings. Stay tuned for 3 exciting games left to determine the NFC North winner.
