The White Sox defeated the Indians 10-6 at US Cellular Field on Tuesday night, but the bigger story was Paul Konerko. Konerko had a career-night – going 3 for 4 with 3 HR’s, 7 RBI’s and 3 runs scored. Konerko is now hitting .301 on the 2009 MLB schedule and has quietly put together a solid season – 16 HR’s, 57 RBI’s, 38 runs scored and an on-base percentage of .354.
The 3 HR’s and 7 RBI’s in one game were career highs for Konerko. Konerko became the 1st White Sox player to hit 3 HR’s in one game in US Cellular Field and he was the 12th player to do it all-time. His 1st HR came in the 2nd inning and tied the game at 1. The White Sox were trailing 3-1 in the 6th inning when his Grand Slam pushed the White Sox ahead for good 5-3. Konerko capped off a 4-run 7th inning for the White with a 2-run HR. All of his shots were “no-doubters”.
Konerko will look to pull off an improbable repeat at US Cellular Field against the Indians Aaron Laffey on Wednesday night. Stay tuned…
