tiger woods bmw championship tour championship pga1

Tiger Woods shot a 3-under par 68 in Sunday’s final round of the BMW Championship to win by 8 strokes over Jim Furyk and Marc Leishman.  It was Woods’ 6th win of the 2009 PGA tour.  With the win, Woods also assured himself of the #1 seed heading into the Tour Championship in Atlanta in 2 weeks, the final piece of the FEDEX Cup playoff.  The winner of the FEDEX Cup picks up a hefty $10 million payout.

After blowing a 2-shot lead in the final round at the PGA Championship to Y.E. Yang back in August, Woods was confident that he wouldn’t let the same thing happen at the BMW Championship.  Woods won for the 71st time in his career (now just 2 career victories behind Jack Nicklaus who is 2nd on the all-time win list), and he also tied Sam Snead’s record of winning at least 6 PGA tour events in 6 seasons.  Not bad at all.

The points are re-set for the FEDEX Cup finale at the Tour Championship, so anyone in the Top 5 of the current points standings can win the FEDEX Cup if they win the Tour Championship.  That means Woods, Furyk, Steve Stricker, Zach Johnson and Heath Slocum all have their sights set on one thing – that Tour Championship trophy…  Stay tuned  – – it should be a fun tourney to watch in HOTlanta in 2 weeks…

Tiger Woods Magic BMW Championship Chicago

Wow – Tiger Woods had his best round of the 2009 golf season, as he set a course record 9-under par 62 at Cog Hill at the BMW Championship in Lemont, Illinois just outside of Chicago.  Woods leads the tournament by 7 shots over Brandt Snedeker who birdied the final 4 holes on Saturday to finish with a 5-under par 66 on the day.  Snedeker will play with Woods for the 1st time ever in the final pairing on Sunday.

Woods round had a rough start – a bogey on hole #1.  His best shot – a 6-iron from the rough onto the green on the 7th hole – put him 15-feet from the hole for a par.  In between, Woods was electric – 8 birdies and 1 eagle and pars the rest of the way – leading to a 31 on the front nine and a 31 on the back nine.

Woods is the best player in the world, and unless something catastrophic happens on Sunday, Woods should win the 3rd leg of the 2009 PGA playoffs.

Tiger Woods The Barclays Jersey City NJ

The 3 men at the top of the leaderboard – Paul Goydos, Steve Marino & Fredrik Jacobson – all have 1 question on their minds – – “Where’s Tiger?!”  It should be an interesting day at the final round of The Barclays on Sunday in Jersey City, NJ.  The Barclays is the 1st leg of the 4-tournament end of year PGA playoff series.

Tiger Woods was the talk of the tournament on Saturday as he shot a 4-under 67 to move within 5 shots of the leaders – each of whom shot a 3-under 68 on “moving day”.  Woods had 5 birdies and 1 bogey on the round and rebounded from an “off-day” in Round 2 on Friday when he shot a 1-over 72.

We’ll keep you posted.  While 5 shots is not an insurmountable lead for Tiger Woods, with 6 golfers ahead of him & 4 golfers tied with him at -4, it’s going to take a helluva round to pull off the 1st win of the playoff series…

    tiger woods

Good news golf fans, Tiger Woods has entered The Barclays, a good sign that Woods will shoot for the FEDEX Cup title in 2009.  Woods has not played the Barclays since 2003.  The Barclays will kick off on Thursday August 27th, and will be followed by the Deutsche Bank Championship near Boston, the BMW Championship near Chicago, and the Tour Championship in Atlanta.  The Woods announcement is also good news for PGA Tour sponsors who have had a rough 2009.  It is also good news for the rest of us who get to see more hot pics of Woods’ lovely wife Elin…

tiger woods pga round 2 sweet 1

Tiger Woods has a 4-shot lead after 2 rounds at the PGA Championship.  Woods shot a 2-under par 70 and is 7-under par after 2 rounds.  Five golfers – Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh, Lucas Glover, Ross Fisher and Brendan Jones – are each 4 shots behind Woods at 3-under par.

Woods has not had this big a lead after 2 rounds in a Major Championship since the 2005 British Open.  And he is 8-0 when leading after 2 rounds in Major Champinships.  Good luck to the rest of the field, but at this point, it looks like this is Tiger’s tournament to lose…

    tiger woods pga championship 1

Tigers Woods leads the 2009 PGA Championship after early play Thursday morning.  Woods shot a bogey-free round of 5-under par 67.  Woods has a 1 stroke lead over his playing partner – Padraig Harrington – the same man Tiger beat at the Bridgstone Invitational last weekend in Akron, Ohio. Woods birdied the 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 12th and 15th holes en route to his solid round.

Phil Mickelson, and the winners from 2009’s 1st 3 Major Championships – Angel Cabrera (The Masters), Lucas Glover (The U.S Open) and Stewart Cink (The British Open) – all have afternoon tee times.

Tiger Woods won his 70th career PGA Tour Victory at the Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio over the weekend with a dramatic victory over Padraig Harrington.  The key turning point occurred on the 16th hole with Harrington leading by 1 stroke.  After both players were placed on the “clock” for slow play leading up to the Back Nine, Woods went on to birdie the hole, while Harrington played serveral bad shots – including one into the water – that led to a triple bogey.  Woods 1 shot deficit quickly turned into a 3 shot lead.  Woods had this to say about chief referee for the PGA European Tour – John Paramor – “Like I was telling him out there, ‘I’m sorry that John got in the way of a great battle’, because it was such a great battle for 16 holes.  And unfortunately, that happened.”

Woods really let into the officials, while Harrington was a little more diplomatic, saying that rules were rules, and the players had to abide the rules for the integrity of the game.  Poor weather conditions, leading to poor play caused much of the slower rounds on Sunday at the tournament.  But I guess that don’t factor that into account.  If they were really a full hole behind the next group, these guys should have picked up the pace a little bit.  But what’s a couple of minutes here or there, especially when the lead is between 2 competititors playing head-to-head in the last group of the day.  It seems to me that the officials should be a little more lenient in a situation like this and in the final round.  As far as we can tell, it doesn’t look like Woods will be fined for his negative comments against the officials and the tour.

    NBA Finals Lakers Magic Basketball

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Orlando Magic 99-91 in overtime on Friday night in Orlando to take a commanding 3-1 series lead in the NBA Finals.  Derek Fisher was the unsing hero for the Lakers, as he banged down a 3-pointer with 4.6 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 87 and send it into overtime.  With the game tied in overtime Fisher nailed another 3-pointer to put the Lakers up for good.  Only 2 players in NBA history have more 3-pointers in the NBA Finals – Robert Horry and Michael Jordan – pretty nice company (Jordan has 6 rings and Horry has 7 rings).

The Lakers overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to win Game 4, outscoring the Magic 30-14 in the 3rd quarter to take a 4 point lead to start the 4th.  The Lakers are now 7-0 in games following losses in the playoffs in 2009.  The only way the Lakers will be denied a championship is if they lose 3 straight games to the Magic – they haven’t lost 3 games in a row all year long.

Kobe Bryant had another impressive night – 32 points (despite making only 11 of 31 shots), 7 rebounds and 8 assists.  Bryant was 8 out of 8 from the free throw line, as the Lakers made 15 of 20 free throw attempts (back to that later).  Pau Gasol (16 points and 10 boards) and Trevor Ariza (16 points and 9 boards) were also instrumental in the win with their big nights.

For the Magic, Dwight Howard starred in just about every way.  Howard had 16 points, 21 rebounds and 9 blocked shots.  But he turned the ball over 7 times and missed more free throws than he made – he was 6-14 from the charity stripe.  That was the Magic’s main downfall – they shot only 59.5% from the free throw line, missing 15 of their 37 attempts from the line.  Any one of those shots gets made, we’re looking at a series tied at 2 with a pivotal Game 5 Sunday night in Orlando.  Instead, the Magic now have their backs against the wall.

Random note, Tiger Woods and his wife Elin were in attendance, as was singer Rihanna.

Stay tuned for great NBA action on Sunday on ABC.  Game 5 is scheduled to start at 8PM EST in Orlando.

Any reason for us to share some great photos of Elin Nordegren Woods – the wife of Tiger Woods.  Tiger Woods won his record 4th Memorial Tournament Championship in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon.  Woods birdied 3 of the final 4 holes to shoot a 7-under 65 in his final round.  He finished at 11-under, 1 shot ahead of Jim Furyk who shot a 3-under 69.  Co-leaders Matt Bettencourt and Mark Wilson led Woods by 4 strokes at the start of the day.  Woods was tied for 7th also trailing Jim Furyk, Jonathan Byrd, Geoff Ogilvy and Davis Love III.  Woods had 4 birdies on the front 9 to move into position and then he outplayed the rest of the leaderboard down the stretch with his birdies on 15, 17 and 18 to bring home his 67th career win.

Talking about Woods wouldn’t be complete without mentioning his beautiful wife Elin.  Enjoy…
