I’ve never been a big Michael Jordan fan.  Spending time in the city of Chicago as a New York Knicks fan since 1994 always tainted me.  Watching Jordan and the Bulls beat my Knicks countless times during the 1990’s and enduring the Bulls denying Patrick Ewing and the Knicks from winning one NBA title was always so painful for  me.  I always felt alone in my criticisms of Jordan, especially here in Chicago.  In short – Jordan is a cry baby.  He always whined when he lost and he never fully appreciated the role his teammates played in bringing 6 championships to the city of Chicago, even going to extreme lengths to get into fights with teammates during practices.  Off the court, Jordan was even worse – Jordan was a blatant womanizer who ran up big gambling debts and thought he could play major league baseball because he was such a GREAT athlete. Hah!  As an NBA exec, it has gotten even worse for Jordan.  We’ve already seen the best of Jordan (back in the 1990’s) and anything he tries to accomplish now will pale in comparison.  While I probably do consider Jordan the “Greatest NBA Player of All-Time”, I truly hope he continues to fail in his future NBA endeavors.

Now my real reason for the post on Jordan – I finally found a great article by Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski.  He sees Jordan through the same glasses that I do, and it makes me feel less alone in the world.  Thank you Adrian – you are my hero.  As Jordan put it over the weekend, “There will never be another Michael Jordan.”  And I say “Thank God to that.”  Cheers MJ…

Michael Jordan was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday night in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Oh yeah – 3 other guys were inducted on Friday night as well – John Stockton, David Robinson and Jerry Sloan.

Lebron James is going to make the Cleveland Cavaliers sweat it out through the free agency process following the 2009-2010 NBA season.  The star has indicated that he will not sign an extension with the Cavaliers during the course of the upcoming NBA season.

Not surprising at all.  James will likely sign the biggest deal in NBA history during next year’s free agency beauty pageant…

The Los Angeles Lakers and Lamar Odom reached a deal that will bring Odom back to the Lakers for 3, maybe 4 years.  Odom is guaranteed $25 million over the first 3 years of the deal.  If the Lakers do not pick up Odom’s 4th year, there will be a $2 million buyout.  If the Lakers keep Odom for the 4th year of the deal, the Lakers will owe Odom $8 million for that season.  The 4th year is a team option that can be exercised or declined by the Lakers.

Odom is excited to be back with the Lakers.  “I guess basket-ball wise, I feel complete.  I want to feel it again [the championship feeling]… It’s kind of an overwhelming feeling.  I get goose bumps when I think about it, and as long as I continue to play professional basketball, I want to always feel that.  That way I feel during the summer, I always want to feel that.  If we can win six, seven, eight, nine, 10 championships in a row, I want to experience that.”

With Odom returning, the Lakers return the entire nucleus of their 2009 NBA Championship team (save for Trevor Ariza.  The Lakers compensated for the loss of Ariza by signing Ron Artest, so the Lakers are in great position to win a 2nd consecutive NBA Championship.

The Nets will likely draft shooting guard Terrence Williams from Lousiville with the #11 pick in the NBA draft to replace the deprature of Carter.

The Phoenix Suns have traded Shaquille O’Neal to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Ben Wallace (and his crazy expiring contract), Sasha Pavlovic and the Cavs 2nd round pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.  The Cavs will also send some cash to the Suns.

After the Cavs – the Eastern Conference’s best team during the regular season – lost to the Orlando Magic in the 6th game of the Eastern Conference Finals, Cavs GM Danny Ferry felt changes needed to be made.  O’Neal – despite the wear and tear on his big body – should give the Cavs the front line presence needed to bring a stronger game to Dwight Howard and the Magic.

Lebron James should be able to wash those tears away with the addition of Shaq to the Cavs rotation.  Shaq isn’t the player he once was, but he should be able to help the Cavs during the playoffs as long as he stays healthy.  Should a fun conference to watch in 2009-2010…
