The Dodgers and Giants are still at the top of Manny Ramirez list but there is now talk that the Rangers may want to talk to him. The Rangers still have a lot of interest in Ben Sheets and might bring back Eric Gagne. The very busy team has also had inquiries on Vicente Padilla and Michael Young.
Mets are rumored to still want Derek Lowe but Lowe’s manager said no offer has been made. Rumor is the Mets offered $36 million but Lowe did not take it serious. It is reported that a long list of teams are looking at him, including the Red Sox.
Talking about the Red Sox there is talk that Jason Varitek is looking for a four-year $40 million deal, but it is very unlikely he will get this amount. Rumor has it the Red Sox are thinking more of a two year deal.
On a side note there are still over 150 free agents not signed yet so Jan could be a very busy month for MLB news.

- Now Manny is the Dodgers first choice. One day we hear the Dodgers are not waiting around for him and now its there first choice. But there is still no deal on the table, so if its there first choice why won’t they talk with Manny’s agent? Once again no MLB teams have stepped up to sign this guy.
- Red Sox are having a hard time signing players. Rumor has it that the Sox tried to get Hanley Ramirez after losing Mark Teixeira but it looks like the Marlins didn’t hear anything they liked.
Red Sox want to sign Teixeira, rumors are buzzing that the Red Sox have sent an offer to the agent of Mark Teixeira. The offer is believed to be the longest and richest in the last seven years. There is also talk that he has been meeting with the NATS, and both teams are not talking.
With no deal from the Braves or the Cubs it looks like Jake Peavy may not get a new home this year. When asked Monday Padres CEO Sandy Alderson said, “It’s likely Jake will be with us on Opening Day.” Looks like the Cubs dropped the ball once again, but hey they just signed Joey Gathright? Gathright had a big year in 2008 with no HR and batting .254.
Looks like the Yankees don’t have time to deal with any more trades since the announcement of the CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett deal. The Yanks also had more in the works with Mike Cameron for Melky Cabrera and Kei Igawa now at a stand still and no word if this deal will continue with the Brewers. One major point is the Yankees don’t want to pay any of the $12 million remaining on Igawa’s contract.
